Welcome to MITACT's ACT Music Newsletter

SEPTEMBER 2007

Hey there! After some more rummaging around the web, here it is, the second edition of the ACT music industry news - as rushed as I am to fit this into my schedule, this is still supprisingly chock full of chunky ACT music industry goodness.

Before getting into the news, another shout out for MITACT.com is called for. Make friends with the website 'cos it's definitely a useful resource. The number of bands listed on the website is growing steadily as with businesses and resources. Also the forum's a great place to communicate with other musos in the region.

So, here you have it... happy reading!

MUSIC INDUSTRY NEWS

LAST MINUTE ENTRIES TO MUSICOZ AWARDS - LAST DAY TODAY!!
With prizes totaling over $100,000 and some pretty admirable success stories, the MusicOz awards are accepting entries until today(!) Friday the 14th of September. Entries can be submitted online, head over to the MusicOZ web page for more information (here's hoping you've already sorted out your entries and that this is just old news to you - otherwise, it's gonna be an extremely tight deadline). You can, however, vote for your favourite artists up until the 21 November for the People's Choice award - there's also a prize of a Maton Electric Guitar for the most creative voter (see the website for details).

Each of these bands has battled their ways through the heats of the NCBC to make it to the finals. The winner will be flown to the national final in Melbourne to compete for $5,000 cash, recording time, CD pressing, musical equipment and more.

MICfest 2007 - A SHOWCASE OF MUSIC FROM CIT's MUSIC INDUSTRY CENTRE
CIT's Music Industry Centre (MIC), will again be showcasing the work of it's music students on Saturday the 10th of November from 1pm to 10pm. It's sure to be a jam packed day, including:

  • Rock Venue and School Stars Competition Showcasing the louder CIT acts and the "School Stars Competition" a secondary school band competition (school registrations are open now, contact Greg Stott for details on 6207 4902 or email greg.stott@cit.act.edu.au )

The event will once again have a bar offering beverages (tea, coffee from 1pm - 4pm and alcoholic beverages from 4pm – 10pm) in the MIC itself (event ID bands will be issued on entry to all patrons). Food will also be offered over the course of the event with an expanded menu and extended opening hours for 2007.

Visit the MICfest Website and/or MySpace pages for more details.

ACT MUSIC VIDEOS
It seems most of you love to peep local band vids, so we thought we'd continue with this section of the newsletter. Post Operation Productions have a pretty wicked collection of live local band music videos up on Youtube - check them out here. Little Smoke have released a brand new video for their tune "Rocker", well worth checking out that one.

GET LISTED IN THE MARCH 2008 VERSION OF THE AUSTRALASIAN MUSIC INDUSTRY DIRECTORY
Applications to list in the AustralAsian Music Industry Directory (to be published March 1st, 2008) are open until November. The AustralAsian Music Industry Directory is a contact directory used by many in the Australian Music Industry and artists can pick up a free copy when they list (I think it costs about $77 to list as an artist). Check out this link for more details.

INTERNATIONAL SONGWRITING CONTEST
Saw this one on AIR.org.au - The calibre of the judges is quite phenomenal, including names like Tom Waits, Jerry Lee Lewis, "Weird Al" Yankovic, Joe Satriani and more. Check out the post on AIR.org.au who have a link to the official website.
